8:38 For if anyone is ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will also be ashamed of him ⁶  when he comes in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.”

[2:28]  sn A second point in Jesus’ defense of his disciples’ actions was that his authority as Son of Man also allowed it, since as Son of Man he was lord of the Sabbath.

[8:31]  ² tn Here καί (kai) has been translated as “then” to indicate the implied sequence of events within the narrative.

[8:31]  ³ tn Grk “he”; the referent (Jesus) has been specified in the translation for clarity.

[8:31]  ⁴ sn The necessity that the Son of Man suffer is the particular point that needed emphasis, since for many 1st century Jews the Messiah was a glorious and powerful figure, not a suffering one.
